A new paradigm for conserving at-risk species is sweeping the plains like a spring rain. The Sage Grouse Initiative restores sage grouse, cares for other wildlife sharing the same extensive home range, and helps ranchers pass on their legacy and rural way of life.
This paradigm includes proactive conversation, respectful partnership and work based on science. To learn more, explore our work, below.
Ranchers have long treated the land with the goal of improving it for future generations. Our collaborative restoration and conservation strategies build on that heritage of stewardship.
Eligible landowners enrolled in the Initiative stand to dramatically enrich their land through conifer removal, weed treatment, grazing systems and more. They also receive the vital funding needed to make that work happen.
Program success hinges on solid training and the sharing of information. At SGI we actively promote interaction and communcition as ways to be more effective, efficient and productive.
The science and policy on sage brush and land practices is deep and continually developing. We encourage thoroughly reviewing our papers and reports for ideas on how to improve the success of your project.
